Administrative Appeals Tribunal
The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) is a body which provides independent review of a wide range of administrative decisions made by the Australian Commonwealth government and some non-government bodies.

Family Court of Australia
The Family Court of Australia is a specialist Federal Superior Court of Record, which has jurisdiction throughout Australia except for Western Australia. The Family Court has been operating since the 5th of January 1976 following the enactment of the Family Law Act 1975. The Court has jurisdiction over all matrimonial causes and associated responsibilities. This includes, divorce proceedings, children's matters such as residence, contact and special issues orders and the provision of mediation services.

Migration Review Tribunal
The Migration Review Tribunal is an independent body, which can review decisions made by the Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs or by officers who are delegates of the Minister. The Tribunal is established under the Migration Act 1958 and its jurisdiction, powers and statutory procedures are set out in that Act and the Migration Regulations 1994

Native Title Tribunal
Established under the Native Titles Act 1993-1998 to facilitate agreements among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, governments, industry and others who rights or interests coexist with native title rights and interests. Refugee Review Tribunal

Tasmania

Supreme Court of Tasmania
The jurisdiction of the Supreme Court falls into two categories - matters in which it exercises original jurisdiction and matters in which it has an appellate jurisdiction. Original jurisdiction means that a matter comes before the court for decision for the first time whereas the appellate jurisdiction involves the court in determining appeals from other courts and tribunals.

Victoria

County Court of Victoria
The County Court of Victoria is an intermediate court with civil and criminal jurisdiction both at first and in some circumstances, on appeal. Magistrates Court of Victoria

Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal
VCAT was introduced on 1 July 1998 and deals with disputes about consumer matters, credit, discrimination, domestic building works, guardianship and administration, residential tenancies, and retail tenancies. It also deals with disputes between people and government about land valuation, licenses to carry on businesses including travel agents, motor car traders and others, planning, state taxation & many other government decisions such as Transport Accident Commission decisions and freedom of information issues.

Western Australia

Children's Court of Western Australia
The Children's Court deals with all complaints of offences alleged to have been committed by young people between the ages of 10 and 17 years (inclusive). If the young person charged has turned 18 after the date of the alleged offence, then the person still appears before the Children's Court.

District Court of Western Australia
Constituted under the District Court of Western Australia Act 1969, the District Court is the intermediate court in Western Australia, presided over by a District Court judge.It has its principal registry at 30 St Georges' Terrace Perth Western Australia and maintains registries in Albany, Broome, Bunbury, Busselton, Carnarvon, Derby, Esperance, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Kununurra, and South Hedland. The District Court also sits at Fremantle, Joondalup and Rockingham in the metropolitan area and at Meekatharra as required.

Family Court of Western Australia
The Family Court of Western Australia was established in 1976 as a State court under the Family Court Act 1975. The court is presided over by judges and magistrates. It is vested with State and Federal jurisdiction in matters of family law and deals with divorce, property of a marriage or defacto relationship, residence, contact and other matters relating to children, maintenance and adoptions. The Department of Justice (WA) provides administrative and logistical support for the operation of this court, which is federally funded.

Magistrates Court of Western Australia
The Magistrates' Courts are the lower level of courts and are located throughout the State. Stipendiary magistrates preside over all jurisdictions within the Magistrates' Courts. Two justices of the peace may substitute for magistrates in the Court of Petty Sessions.

Supreme Court of Western Australia
The Supreme Court is the State's highest court, with responsibility for both criminal and civil matters. It deals with very serious criminal charges, such as wilful murder, murder, armed robbery and serious breaches of Commonwealth drug enforcement laws. Generally, it hears civil cases where the amount involved in the dispute is more than $250,000. It is the main appeal court of the state, and hears appeals from lower courts and single judge decisions of the Supreme Court.
