Advice to Applicants
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for employment with the Federal Magistrates Court you must:
- be an Australian citizen, or in the process of becoming one;
- understand that a security or character clearance may be conducted (if required);
- not have received a redundancy benefit from an APS or Commonwealth employer within the last 12 months;
- complete a six-month probationary period.
Citizenship
To be eligible for employment with the Federal Magistrates Court you must be an Australian citizen. In exceptional circumstances, this requirement may be waived, for example if your application for citizenship has not yet been
processed, but you must hold the necessary visa and work permits appropriate to the employment.
Employment of persons who have taken voluntary redundancy
If you have received a redundancy benefit from an APS Agency or non-APS Commonwealth employer within the last twelve months you may apply for positions, but cannot be engaged by the Federal Magistrates Court, until a period of twelve
months has passed.
Security and character check
The Federal Magistrates Court might need to be satisfied that an applicant for employment is a fit and proper person to be an employee of the Australian Public Service. The fit and proper person assessment involves checking police
records for unspent criminal convictions and verifying employment history and employment references. If your work requires you to have access to classified material, you may need to undergo a formal security assessment.
Probation
New employees are required to complete a six-month probationary period. Employees whose performance and/or behaviour do not reach the required standard during their probationary period will have their employment terminated., |
