Advice to ApplicantsEligibility RequirementsTo be considered for employment with the Federal Magistrates Court you must: CitizenshipTo be eligible for employment with the Federal Magistrates Court you must be an Australian citizen. In exceptional circumstances, this requirement may be waived, for example if your application for citizenship has not yet been processed, but you must hold the necessary visa and work permits appropriate to the employment. Employment of persons who have taken voluntary redundancyIf you have received a redundancy benefit from an APS Agency or non-APS Commonwealth employer within the last twelve months you may apply for positions, but cannot be engaged by the Federal Magistrates Court, until a period of twelve months has passed. Security and character checkThe Federal Magistrates Court might need to be satisfied that an applicant for employment is a fit and proper person to be an employee of the Australian Public Service. The fit and proper person assessment involves checking police records for unspent criminal convictions and verifying employment history and employment references. If your work requires you to have access to classified material, you may need to undergo a formal security assessment. ProbationNew employees are required to complete a six-month probationary period.
